Instructions for using essential oils in a bath....

First, an important safety note is that you must always use an emulsifier mixed with the oils to disperse them throughout the water.  Water and oils do not ordinarily mix – only when they have been combined via an emulsifier.  Some essential oils can burn or irritate the skin if they come into contact with it, hence the need to ensure the oil is dispersed effectively into the water; not floating as droplets on the surface of the water.

  1. Choose 2 or 3 different essential oils to create or enhance your mood.

  2. Place the emulsifier into a small container and mix in the essential oils.  A good amount of essential oil is about 8 drops in total of the different oils.  Use about the same amount of emulsifier as oil (eg. 8 drops).

Do not use any overly strong or “fierce” oils such as Clove Bud, Lemongrass, Lemon Myrtle, Lemon Eucalyptus or Honey Myrtle.  Also avoid most of the herb and spice oils, such as Oregano, Coriander, Black Pepper, Thyme and Sage.

Also be cautious of using any oils from the Melaleuca family, like Eucalyptus and Cajeput.
